I am worried about the new school year because of my sons health problem, any advice?

My son get a migraine at least once a week. This summer has been pretty difficult for us (he was diagnosed early in the summer). No matter what medicine he is taking he will get a migraine at least once a week like i said, and it usually takes him out the whole day.

I am worried for the school year to start because i don't want him to miss school and me and my husband both work so it is difficult for us to leave and pick him as well. I also know it would be very tough for him to sit in class with a migraine.

Has anyone else ever been through this? Or any advice on how to deal with it?

He would be missing so much school the way it is going now, or would he be able to get through the day in school?

Thanks for your help in advance! I am very confused.I am worried about the new school year because of my sons health problem, any advice?
What i have done - all of my children get migraine headaches which they got from me! - is i give the office their medicine and talked to the teacher about it. They go and grab it whenever they need to. And if that doesn't work what other choice do i have than to go pick them up.

This has been very disruptive to my job but thankfully we have our own Business with people working for us so it is not as bad because i cant fire myself.

If there is no way that we can pick them up because of a meeting etc. they lie down in the nurses office.

once a week is a lot! 3 of my kids are once a month maybe but my 9 year old is once a week.

I hate leaving him in the nurses office because everytime i go to pick him up after school i find out hes been crying for the whole time he was there.

And what do they do in there? close the door and leave them in the dark! Imagine that...your child in the dark crying for sometimes a whole afternoon! Try to stay away from this one.

Goodluck!I am worried about the new school year because of my sons health problem, any advice?
Talk to his teachers, and let them all know what is going on. In high school I got migraines some times 3 times a week ( i eventually grew out of them thank goodness) I sat down with my teachers and had an honest talk with them. Letting them now that I was going to try my best and not use this as a crutch but I did need help sometimes. I was went to an alternative highschool so I was able to leave and drive home. Id talk to the nurse and get a doctors note explaining everything. They normally have cots where he can lie down if they hit. Your working on getting medication for him im sure so he needs to take care of himself too. Also sunglasses helped me a TON with my migrains, see if they will allow him to wear those if he has a sensitivity to light. ( also this might help if he wears glasses get his eyes checked. MY eyes changes changed so quickly that I was having these horrible mirgraines, once i got new glasses they only happened a few times a week when they use to be every single day) How old is your son?
There is medicine for migraines you know. Just put a pill in a Ziploc bag every morning. Put them in his lunch on the days he takes it and with his money on the days he buys. When he feels the migraine come on, all he's gotta do is take the pill. Easy. No need to worry. He'll be fine.
