What can i do to fix this problem..ur advice please?

A few months ago i called the leasing agent to tell her i had water coming from the ceiling in my kitchen. ( I am on the top floor) and they said they would check it out ASAP. (mind you they always are on top of fixing things) well they left a note saying they checked it out and that was about it. well last weekend we had three days of rain and not only was there more water coming in in the kitchen, but there was water coming in my walk in closet. Now i notice that there is huge cracks in the walls and ceilings. These where not big when i moved in. I called the leasing agents to ask them to fix this problem because water damage can turn into a big problem. I am thinking there was a problem before i moved in and not was told of such. They refuse to fix it saying its not a big deal. where can i go from here? thanksWhat can i do to fix this problem..ur advice please?
NO..Do NOT have it fixed yourself and try to collect through your rent. It may be legal in some jurisdictions, but most will NOT allow you to withhold rent for such a purpose.

I agree you should contact the owner of the property, but you should also contact you local landlord tenant office, which can adivize you on the specific rights in your area. What can i do to fix this problem..ur advice please?
Contact an attorney, this is against the law, Send a registered letter to the leasing agents and to the owners of the building stating the problem and requests to get it fixed. Take pictures and when you see the attorney, ask about putting your rent in a special account until they fix the problem. You may be able to sue for damages to your property if there are any.
If the water damages your property, I think you'd be able to sue the landlord, because the cracks in the building were not caused by you.
call the building code enforcement officer in your municipality. Have him come out and take a look. He can issue violation summonses and demand the repairs be done in days.
a; skip the leasing agent; contact the manager.

b; if you have given them 30 days to make all repairs,

call a licensed contractor.....get a bid to make all right.

c; hire that contractor.....YOU pay him. DO NOT let him leave

till all the repairs that you want fixed are fixed.........UNLESS he says

he cannot do them--IF it is a structure problem that has ';come about.';

if it is structural, you have a ';constructive eviction'; and you may

leave the apt.....and get your deposit back and the rest of March's rent.

if it is not structural you pay the repair,

get a receipt and take that amount out of April's rent

and give the LL/owner, a copy of the paid repair receipt.

if you have lost -damaged goods, send him a bill for that too.

available to guide you further

you may not ask the contractor to bill the LL or anyone else.
