Can someone help me with a computer problem? All advice is welcome!?

My HP laptop, when turned on, displays blinking green, blue, red, etc. in columns within a rectangular frame on the screen. What do I do? It started this suddenly one day and I have not downloaded anything in over 3 years. Can someone help me with a computer problem? All advice is welcome!?

Is that ALL you see?

If you can't actually get your computer to do normal computer things, it sounds like there is something wrong with the communication between the monitor and the computer.

It sounds as if the monitor is in test mode, which you will see monitors do if they are not hooked up to a computer, or not hooked up to a working computer.

So, either something relatively simple is wrong with the connection, which is possible, considering most cords on laptops go through the hinge, putting undue stress on it.

Or, you computer could be completely busted. Its really hard to tell without more information. Try taking it to the shop, I don't think there's anything you can do.
I concur about the disconnected internal video cable.

To test this, Connect the laptop to an external monitor and see if you get a picture on the screen.

If it's under warranty, Call HP tech support for repair.

Having worked inside HP laptops before, this is NOT something you want to try to do yourself !
This is a color test pattern displayed by flat panel monitors that do not have a video signal going to it. Your screen is fine, there's just no video signal. Have the laptop serviced. Did you drop it or bang it?
try getting the graphic cards drivers reinstalled if that dont help...

try plugging a desktop screen into your laptop so your laptop runs on there, if it doesn't flicker on there, find a replacement screen for your laptop
prob gonna have to redownload ur graphics drivers.... dont ask me how but that will prob fix it. if that doesnt work then its probably a physical problem
Your video card is probablay bad you will need to get anew one if im right
What all have you tried to do?
Restart with OS cd and follow steps to fix OS...or reformat totally.
get a mac
